Achilles, the central character of Homer’s epic poem, ‘The Iliad’ was initially reluctant to fight in the Trojan War due to a dispute with Agamemnon, the leader of the Greek army. However, after the death of his close friend, Patroclus, Achilles finally re-enters the battle. The reason behind Achilles’ decision to rejoin the battle is multi-faceted. One of the primary reasons was his burning desire for revenge. The death of Patroklos at the hands of Hector, the Trojan prince, was a personal blow to Achilles since Patroklos was not only his friend but also his companion-in-arms, who had taken his place in the war.
