Why Did Odysseus Go To The Underworld?

Odysseus goes to the underworld to consult with the prophet Tiresias and seek advice on how to get home. In Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey," Odysseus visits the underworld as part of his journey back to Ithaca. He meets many of the dead, including his mother, and gains insight into his future. Tiresias warns him of the dangers that lie ahead and advises him on how to navigate them.
