To Kill a Mockingbird was written in 1960 by Harper Lee. It is a novel that takes place in the 1930s and 1940s in Alabama, and follows the story of Scout Finch, an 11 year old girl who lives with her brother Jem and their father Atticus. The book is set against the backdrop of racial tensions during the Great Depression, when black men were lynched for crimes they did not commit.
The novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961, and was made into an Academy Award winning film starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch.
