To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by Harper Lee. It was published in 1960. The story begins in Maycomb, Alabama during the depression and follows the lives of the Finch family over the course of several years. Scout Finch, the narrator, is six years old at the beginning of the story. The plot centers around her father Atticus Finch's defense of Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman.
