The story takes place in a future where people are divided into five factions based on their personalities.
Divergent is a series by Veronica Roth, and it's about a young woman named Tris who must choose a faction to live in after her aptitude test determines that she is Divergent. The factions are Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (peace), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (bravery), and Erudite (intelligence). The Divergent have special abilities, but they are also dangerous. Tris has to decide which faction she wants to join as she learns about herself and what it means to be different.
