Divergent is a book written by Veronica Roth that follows the story of Tris Prior, who lives in a society that has been divided into five factions. The factions are:

Abnegation, who believe in selfless service to others and are tasked with running the government;

Amity, who believe in peace and harmony and are tasked with farming;

Candor, who believe in honesty at all costs and are tasked with law enforcement and legal matters;

Dauntless, who believe in bravery above all else and are tasked with protecting the city; and finally

Erudite, who believe in knowledge above all else and are tasked with research.
