In Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream, the character of Oberon is the King of the fairies and one of the central figures in the plot. Oberon is a complex character with a variety of desires and motivations that are explored throughout the play. At first glance, Oberon appears to be a powerful and confident ruler who is in control of his realm. However, as the play unfolds, we see that he is also susceptible to jealousy, anger, and pettiness. One of his primary motivations is to control his wife, Titania, and he is willing to use a magic flower to achieve his aim.
