Does Gawain Die In The Green Knight?

In the Middle English poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Sir Gawain is a knight of King Arthur's Round Table who accepts a challenge from the mysterious Green Knight. Sir Gawain strikes The Green Knight on the neck with an axe, but The Green Knight survives the blow and offers Sir Gawain to set out on a quest to fulfill his end of the challenge. Sir Gawain is later revealed to have been dishonest in his dealings with the Green Knight, but he does not die in the poem.
