Imagine wanting to learn and enjoy different cultures your whole life. Yearning to go out and explore the amazing aspect of people different from the regular people you see every day. Culture is a big part of people's lives. It influences their views, their values, their humor, their hopes, and their loyalties. Ever since I was young boy I always had dreams of exploring the world meeting all types of people and I definitely still do. I was not one of the lucky ones to traveling a lot growing up, but coming Winthrop is showing to be a great choice, it is giving me opportunity’s I would not have had any where else.
The Leroy Sanchez cultural event gave me that sense of the foreign culture.
Leroy Sanchez is Spanish born singer who is currently based in Los Angeles, California. Originally Sanchez was born in Abetxuko, Vitoria, Spain where he to play the guitar self-taught. He started out as a YouTube singer who covers song at age 15.

His music he posted gained positive reviews from all over the world and gained immediate attention. Which lead him to do numerous covers, the most notable ones include “Hello” by Adele and “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith. American entrepreneur and record producer Jim Jonsin became aware of Sanchez’s YouTube and saw potential. He then invited Sanchez to Miami to purse his career. Sanchez accepted and moved to the U.S. to follow his dream.
The Leroy Sanchez Concert was at the amphitheater at 8 O’clock pm.
He started off talking. about his life coming from Spain, how he had to transition to the American lifestyle and how it was not easy for him to do. He went on to sing “Man of the Year”, he wrote the song for the special women in his life. Then he sung “Love in the Dark”, “Perfect” and “Despacito”. He also covered Justin Bieber “Sorry” in Spanish but unfortunately, I forgot all the songs he covered and brought a fellow Winthrop student up from out of the crowd to sing.
From going to the concert, I learned that it is good to learn a different language through music. Music is a fun more comfortable way to learn a language and you happen to learn faster listening to song in a different language. I realized this when Sanchez sung “Sorry” in Spanish and in then in English. When you learn a language through music it helps improves your pronunciation.
This event supported my thinking that it is important to learn about different cultures. Get out and explore the different aspects of people’s culture. When working with people and building relationships with them, it helps to have some perspective and understanding of their cultures. Understanding culture is important to building long lasting healthy relationships and it creates better communities. The more you learn about others culture the more barriers you break down and stereotypes you overcome.
