Fear of trusting people can pose a negative effect on the individual. This agitation can make individuals doubt their abilities, decisions, and perceptions. Fear motivates us to do many things no matter if they are right or wrong. In Macbeth, fear was the main motivating factor and in the end, fear influenced the final results of the play.

This is shown as she immediately plans Duncan’s death after hearing about the news in scene 5, she manipulates Macbeth by questioning his manhood, exaggerating her emotions to seem believable and using vulgar language to persuade Macbeth such as, “I would have plucked my nipple out of its mouth and smashed its brains out against a wall if I had sworn to do that the same way you have sworn to do this”.

Lady Macbeth assumes that Macbeth is not manly enough which makes Lady Macbeth rethink her trust towards him. This shows that she is testing Macbeth’s trust and that makes Lady Macbeth question her own beliefs. This is all leading up to the psychological problems, which occur towards the end part of the play. Macbeth begins to separate from within himself, he becomes so insecure and anxious. He starts to blame himself for everything that has happened.

Macbeth's fear of his wife is a major motivation for his actions throughout the play. This presents the negative impacts of trusting others before you can even trust your self. Also, leading up Lady Macbeth’s sensitivity becomes a weakness, and she is unable to cope. Significantly, she kills herself, signaling her total incapacity to address the legacy in their crimes. Relating to this concept of fear Lady Macbeth also fears being caught with the plan she has. She fears that Macbeth will not be able to do it too and that the plan will fail.
