Asher

Asher is a youthful, optimistic boy in The Giver. He is Jonas’ best friend and is innovative and daring. He struggles with language precision, often substituting incorrect words for the correct ones. Asher is constantly getting into trouble and loves to play games.

Jonas

Jonas is a curious and kind-hearted 12-year-old boy who is selected to become the Receiver of Memory in his community. As he receives memories of the past from the Giver, Jonas begins to question the structured and emotionless world he lives in and becomes determined to change it.

The Giver

The Receiver is a wise and elderly man who is responsible for holding all of the memories of the past in a society where everyone else is restricted from feeling or experiencing emotions. He trains a young boy named Jonas to become his successor and carry the weight of the memories himself.

Gabriel

Gabriel is a baby who is being taken care of by the main character, Jonas, in the book The Giver. He is described as having pale eyes and being very quiet. He is also very important to the plot as he represents hope for a better future.
