Larry Watson is the author of the novel Montana 1948. The novel tells the story of a young boy, David Hayden, who witnesses the events leading up to his uncle’s trial for the rape and murder of a Native American woman. David’s father is the sheriff of the town of Mercer, Montana, and the novel chronicles the events of that summer in 1948.
Watson was born in 1947 in Rugby, North Dakota, and grew up in Montana. He received his BA from the University of Montana and his MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He is the author of five novels, including Montana 1948, Justice, and White Feathers. His work has been translated into several languages and his novels have been adapted for film and television.
