Jeffrey Eugenides is an American novelist and short story writer. His first novel, The Virgin Suicides, was published in 1993 and became a cult classic. His second novel, Middlesex, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2003.
Eugenides was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1960, to a Greek father and an American mother. He was raised in a Greek Orthodox household and attended Grosse Pointe public schools. He received his B.A. from Brown University in 1982 and his M.A. from Stanford University in 1986.
Eugenides is married to the writer Joy Williams. They have two children and live in New York City.
