George W Bush was the 43rd President of the United States, serving from 2001 to 2009. He was a Republican Party nominee and is the eldest son of President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush.nBush was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and grew up in Midland and Houston, Texas. He graduated from Yale University in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975. He served in the Texas Air National Guard from 1968 to 1974. He worked in oil businesses and served as the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000.nOn September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., killing nearly 3,000 people. In response, Bush launched the War on Terror, invading Afghanistan to remove the Taliban regime from power and capture Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. In 2003, he invaded Iraq, claiming that Saddam Hussein’s regime possessed weapons of mass destruction and posed a threat to the United States and its allies. Although no such weapons were found, Bush’s approval ratings soared in the aftermath of the Iraq War.nBush left office in 2009 with a legacy of two unpopular wars, a struggling economy, and high approval ratings. He has since returned to private life, but remains an active voice in American politics.
