Elizabeth E. Wein is a British-American writer of historical fiction, best known for her young adult novel Code Name Verity. Wein was born in New York City, but moved to the United Kingdom at the age of three and was raised in Scotland and England. She attended the University of Edinburgh, where she studied history. After graduation, she worked as a journalist and as an editor for a small publishing company. Wein’s first novel, The Lion Hunters, was published in 2001. It was followed by a sequel, The Eagle of the Ninth, in 2003. Both novels are set in Roman Britain and tell the story of a young Roman officer, Marcus Aquila, who is stationed in Britain. The Eagle of the Ninth was adapted into a film, The Eagle, in 2011. Wein’s third novel, Rose Under Fire, was published in 2013. It is set during World War II and tells the story of a young American woman, Rose Justice, who is sent to Ravensbrück, a Nazi concentration camp for women. Rose Under Fire was a National Book Award finalist and won the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction. Wein’s fourth novel, A Thousand Sisters, was published in 2017. It is set during World War II and tells the story of the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots, a group of American women who flew military aircraft during the war. A Thousand Sisters was a New York Times bestseller.
Elizabeth E Wein is a very talented author who writes amazing stories. Her books are always well-written and full of suspense. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who enjoys a good mystery novel.
