Raymond Carver’s “Cathedral” is a short story about a man who is visited by his wife’s friend, who is blind. The narrator is not particularly fond of the man, but he goes along with his wife’s request to entertain him. Over the course of the story, the narrator begins to see the man in a different light, and he even helps him to experience the beauty of a cathedral. In the end, the narrator has a newfound respect for the man, and he is even able to see the world in a new way himself.
