Pushkin was born into a noble family in Moscow in 1799. He was educated at the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo and then at the University of St. Petersburg. Pushkin’s first poem was published when he was just 16 years old.
Pushkin is considered to be the founder of modern Russian literature. His work was highly influential in the development of Russian literature in the 19th century. Pushkin was also a major figure in the Romantic movement in Russia. He died in a duel in 1837.
