Letter to My Future Self and From My Future

Categories: My Future

Dear future me,

I’m about to finish high school and have no idea what to do with my life. All of my friends are going to college and I want to be with them, but the problem is I find it hard to give a damn about school. Now that you’re older and wiser what should I do?

Sincerely,

Me

Dear me,

Stop worrying about what other people think about you. Lovers are going to love and the haters damn sure are going to hate.

The only opinion that truly matters is what you think about yourself. Don’t worry about the struggles, being at peace with yourself is the most beautiful feeling to have.

It’s okay to not know what the hell is going on and its cool to not know what you are doing with your life. You will find that problems and success will meet you all throughout your time on this earth. It is not about what happens to you it’s about how you deal with what happens to you.

It’s okay to not go to college with your friends. You will find that the real friends will always stick with you wherever you are at. You will also meet plenty of new ones along the way. College will always be an option in your life. Its okay to take time away from school, school isn’t for everyone. You better be damn sure to have a plan to know what you are going to do so you don’t turn into a fucktard.

When the military comes to your school look at it as a serious consideration rather than just an option for troubled kids. You may find that you are not much different after all.

When your friends ask you to countless parties, trips, and other sinful excursions that seem/probably are fun as fuck, don’t take them up on it. The alcohol and the reefer will take your money soon enough and the parties don’t last forever. You will find these experiences are fun but can come with costly consequences.

Don’t worry about finding the right girl. You will find that the most outside beauty does not always translate to the inside. Find a girl who actually wants you for you because all the money in the world can’t buy happiness, and neither can the sex. When you start dating girls remember that they have feelings too. That sex you view as meaningless, may not mean the same for your partner so man the fuck up and be a gentleman. Your actions are not just a reflection on yourself but for other men, so even if you don’t succeed with her, don’t fuck it up for the next guy.

When your parents tell you to not join the military, don’t take it in a hostile way. It’s your damn self who put yourself in that situation so appreciate the advice and learn to recognize the love they are giving you. They just want what’s best for their son.

When/if you decide to join the military make sure it is because you actually want to rather than feeling like you have no other choice. Being backed into a corner is tough, but it is nothing compared to what you will experience in the service.

The Army always tells you to volunteer for everything. While this is viewed by your peers as being a suck up, do it anyways. The training and knowledge that you will gain is something that no one can ever take away from you in a lifetime. Your efforts will not go unnoticed and it will finally give you that chance to play Call of Duty in real life like you wanted.

Going to war is not as glamorous as the movies or video games. You will find that when the stakes are real, shit gets scary really fast. Those bombs and firefights you saw in the movies, in real life actually leave lifetime scars. So does the memories of fellow friends falling in combat. Do not fear though, the pain you have endured will help you save the pain in someone else. At the end of the day what causes you nightmares are also what helps others sleep better at night.

When you feel that survivor’s guilt do not be sad. It is human to miss your fallen friends but don’t forget, you were meant to survive for a reason that’s bigger than us. Their sacrifice will give you a power that will make you unstoppable so do not squander it.

When you leave the military, make sure you keep in touch with all of your service friends. You will find that the military is not about the job, but about your brothers and sisters to your left and right. One day you may need to answer the call and that call may make all the difference in the world to their life.

As you get to college don’t forget that you are there for your education, but also make sure you have a damn good time. That joint you haven’t been able to smoke because of the military, you can finally smoke if you wish to but avoid it around the police lol. Those early mornings are gone and the parties are still alive so be sure to enjoy to the fullest.

When that day comes when you complete college be damn proud of what you accomplished. You have been through things that no one will understand but that’s what makes you unique and elite. Be sure to know your worth and know that no matter what success is something that no one can ever take away from you.

I hope this has served as some good advice, good luck youngin.

Sincerely,

Future Me
