High School Stays With Us Forever

Soon I'll go off to college and never see any of my friends again. I didn't realize how much I would miss the people I have been going to school with until we all went to the beach at the end of junior year. We all decided to go one day, after school let out, because we had nothing better to do. We told of our parents at the last notice, got our attire together, and headed for the beach. The drive there was interesting considering we had all just gotten our licenses.

Thankfully, we took two cars because I, myself, almost got in 3 car crashes on the way there. I distinctly remember seeing the bird from a few people. After we finally made it to the beach, we took an hour and a half to find parking. I ended up spending $20 in a parking lot. Once we all found each other I started to realize how much college will make me miss memories like this.

I remember it being much more hot than Virginia is used to. I could barely deal with it in nothing more than a pink bathing suit. I forgot to bring any good shoes to wear so I walked around on the hot sand barefoot. I couldn't stand to be on it for more than a few seconds but that didn't stop me from getting 3rd degree burns on the bottoms of my feet. Almost as soon as we got there, we went to get food.

We bought overpriced subs and sat eating for over an hour. After we finished we went out to the water where we put all of our belongings in the sand. We went out to the freezing cold water and tried to stay in it as long as possible. We threw a football for a while to help us stop thinking about how cold we were. Eventually, it got too much for us and we all went to lay out on towels and attempt to darken our pale skin. I ended up getting more burned than tan but anything would help. Even though the trip hadn't been eventful so far, it made me start to realize how much I’ll miss the friends I’ve made in high school.

Our boredom began to overcome us so we started to walk around while leaving all our belongings far away where anyone could have taken. My friends started to make comments on all of the beach goers they saw and we all gave each other a hard time about various memories. After walking for what seemed like forever, we ended up at the boardwalk where we were forced by on of our friends to take pictures. At the time I didn't want to take any, but i'm glad we did. Eventually, we headed back to see if any of our belongings had been stolen. To our surprise, they hadn't. Although I could feel the sunburn peel away at my skin, we started tanning again while reminiscing on our pasts and all of the stupid things we have done. After the nostalgia trip, we decided to head home as the sun set above the water.

The ride home was almost as troublesome as the one there. Some of us got lost and drove around the beach for 45 minutes. Thankfully, I wasn't in that car because I have the good sense to turn on navigation unlike some of my friends. We met up at Chick fil A after we made it back home and then went to my house to look at pictures we had taken over the past year. These pictures made me realize how important the people in my life are and how much I rely on those around me. The shock of being practically alone in less than a year was daunting but I was enjoying the time I spent with my friends while I still could. Adulthood would be a major change but although high school was full of adventure, I have become excited to embark on my next one with the people I love.
