Eauthanasia In us

Categories: Assisted Suicide

The highly controversial topic of euthanasia provides an array of ideas posing whether it is justified or not. Of the overwhelming amount of countries in the world, only nine have legalized it; although the topic continuously comes closer to the limelight. Euthanasia consists of a peaceful death ending in suicide. Through extreme physical or emotional pain patients find the decision of physician-assisted suicide more and more plausible. Instead of focusing solely on preserving life, we should realize the importance of maintaining its quality.

Forced treatment that is contrary to a person's values is unacceptable, the option of euthanasia is most definitely something that should be available.

In certain circumstances, the option of euthanasia is the right thing to do rather than endure a horrid ending to a precious life. The book Of Mice and Men provides a prime example of how even though the decision can be difficult euthanasia may come to be the best route to take. George, his best friend then concludes that he must put Lenny down despite being his friend for years. After what Lenny has done, the other characters would be sure to give him a painful death for his crime. Margaret Pabst Battin a previously strong believer in autonomy has experienced difficulty in deciding on euthanasia. Although in one of her books she believed “ The competent patient can, and ought to be accorded the right to, determine what is to be done to him or her, even if . . . it means he or she will die,” (The Least Worst death) it was hard for her to decide to essentially kill her husband. People everywhere unnecessarily object to euthanasia without real people must-have because of its disregard for certain victims of unrelenting physical or emotional suffering. Ms. Maynard continued how the option has benefited her unfortunately short life when she says “Now that I've had the prescription filled and it's in my possession, I have experienced a tremendous sense of relief. And if I decide to change my mind about taking the medication, I will not take it.” If only the option was there it could at least give the patient some sort of control over their life. When the time comes people must have at least some control over a chaotic life. It is important to accept the decisions of the people in multiple circumstances and to allow the option of assisted suicide to end their torment in tranquility.
