Definition And History Of Impeachment

Categories: Democracy

If impeachment did not exist we would live in a world full of leaders that are allowed to be abusive with their powers. Impeachment is important to America because it allows the government to get rid of the President if they step beyond their duties. Impeachment is the legislature in the US constitution that gives congress the legal right to investigate, expose, and remedy the crime committed by a politician or the president of the United States and it is crucial to keeping the integrity of democracy.

A democracy is a people-led government. In how the government is run, every person has a say (or vote). This is different from a monarchy or dictatorship that has all the power of one person (the king or dictator).

The Legislative Branch is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate, forming the United States Congress together. The Constitution grants Congress the exclusive authority to pass laws and declare war, the ability to approve or deny most executive nominations, and extensive investigative powers.
