Popularly known and addressed by fans as Zac Efron, Zachary David Alexander Efron is a Hollywood actor who rose to prominence following his outstanding performances in High School Musical series. His other movies apart from the Disney musical franchise series include Hairspray, 17 Again, New Year's Eve, The Lucky One, The Paperboy, Neighbors, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Baywatch, and The Greatest Showman.

Asides being an excellent actor, Efron is also a terrific singer who has contributed to the soundtracks of some of the movies he has starred in which have all been certified either platinum or gold in many countries.

Efron was born in San Luis Obispo, California, on the 18th day of October 1987. His parents are Jewish thus, his surname is taken from a biblical place name. Although his ethnicity is Jew, and Zac considers himself a Jewish, he said he was raised in an agnostic household and they never practiced religion during his childhood days.

His parents Starla Baskett, and David Efron worked at the same power station.

His father was an electrical engineer and his mother was a secretary. After graduating from Arroyo Grande High School in 2006, he was offered admission at the University of Southern California but he never enrolled. Between 2001 and 2002, he enrolled and performed with a community Art school, Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts Santa Maria.

Efron is not the only child of his parents, he has a younger brother named Dylan Efron who is a graduate of The California Polytechnic State University. Dylan served as the assistant to executive producer Ravi Mehta on 2015 comedy Get Hard.

It was Zac's who first saw the potentials in him and encouraged him to consider acting. Efron adhered to his father's advice. During his High School day, he began working with The Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville theatre, taking singing lessons and appearing in theatre productions. He performed in Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, The Music Man, Little Shop of Horrors, and Gypsy.

His teacher, Robyn Metchik would later introduce him to an agent in L.A who signed him to the Creative Artists Agency. In the early 2000s, he began getting minor roles in TV series such as The Guardian, Firefly, and ER. From 2004, he became a recurring character in the first season of the Summerland (a WB series), by the second season of the series, he was promoted to the main cast. In 2004, he starred as one of two autistic twins in Lifetime television film Miracle Run and was nominated for a Young Artist Award.

His breakthrough came in 2006 when he landed a role in the Disney musical franchise series High School Musical. In the film described as a modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, Zac Efron played the role of Troy Bolton, a high school basketball player who finds himself in a state of conflict when he after he finds himself interested in participating in the school musical with Gabriella Montez, a girl from the scholastic decathlon team, played by Vanessa Hudgens. He reprised the role in High School Musical II and III which were released in 2007 and 2008 respectively.

His performance in the High School Musical series earned him the Australian Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for cutest couple alongside Vanessa Hudgens. The High school musical I was followed by another musical Hairspray which was released that same year, then 17 Again in 2009. His other blockbuster movies include New Year's Eve, The Lucky One, The Paperboy, Neighbors, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Baywatch, We Are Your Friends, The Greatest Showman, among others.

His performance in The Greatest Showman, which also starred Hugh Jackman earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy. He has also won the Bravo Otto awards for Best TV Star – Male and the Teen Choice Awards as Choice Comedy Movie actor for his role in Baywatch.
