History had many corrupt and powerful rulers. Many of them were evil and sought out to control a vast stretch land. Whether if it were kings, monarchs, tyrants, or emperors they all had similar goals. These rulers were very controlling but the most powerful of rulers had to been dictators. These people had such an intense greed for power they would do anything to obtain it, they would even kill millions. During the 1900’s many dictatorships were born in Europe. During the early 1900’s a new type of modern poilitcal system known as Fascism came to be.
Fascism is a type of government that seeks to help the social, economic, and cultural life of a country by advocating a sense of patriotism and ethnic pride. Fascism rejects the ideas of freedom, human rights, and tries to destroy legislatures, elections, and basically any forms of democracy. The creation of Fascist governments had led to tremendous wars and conflicts and to the death of millions.
Fascism is related to racism, violence, and totalitarianism. Fascism was discovered by Benito Mussolini in 1919.
The actual word fascism comes from the Italian word fascio which means union or league. Most fascist movements occurred in the early in 1900’s in Europe. Fascist movements came about in the 1900’s due to the fact that political parties were trying to increase patriotism after the social and political turmoil after World War 1 and the Russian Revolution. Such primary examples were Italy and Germany with Hitler and Mussolini. The fascist governments gained the control of their states by gaining the support of their people.
The control of these states by Italy and Germany lead to millions of death from The Holocaust. One of the main fascist leaders during the 1900’s was Adolf Hitler. Hitler was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria on April 20, 1889. Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Party. Hitler was Chancellor of Germany from 1933-1945. He was known as the Head of State and most commonly referred to as the Fuhrer. Hitler was served in World War 1 for Germany and was a decorated soldier. After the war Hitler became obsessed with the idea of an Arian world so he joined the Nazi Party.
After Hitler joined the Nazi Party he led a revolution in the Beer Hall Putsch where he had failed. He was later sent to jail for a year where he wrote in his diaries. After his release from jail Hitler became more interested in politics. In Hitler’s political campaign, he used German patriotism, anti semitism, anti communism, rascism, and propaganda to win his elections. During his campaign Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany’s economic and social problems. After WW1 the German people would believe what anyone tells them as long it for the greater good of Germany.
On January 30, 1933 Hitler became chancellor and started the Third Reich. The Third Reich was Hitler’s movement of a single dictator ship based on totalitarian and the Nazism. On August 25, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland. England and France responded causing the Second World War in Europe. During the war Hitler was united with the Axis powers that included mainly Germany, Italy, and Japan. The War in Europe ended with the Battle of Berlin. Due to the fear of being captured by the Soviets, Hitler killed himself on April 30, 1945.
Through the span of the war, Hitler and the Nazi party executed 17 million civilians in the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a way for the Nazi party to exterminate and torture their enemies, prisoners, and Jews. Hitler’s ally Benito Mussolini was the known as the founder of fascism and a strong political leader in Europe during World War 2. Benito Mussolini was born Dovia di Predappio, Italy on July 29, 1883. The Mussolini’s were a poor family who lived in a crowded two-bedroom apartment. His father was a blacksmith and a follower of socialism and his mother taught elementary school.
Benito, although intelligent, was violent and had a large ego. He was a poor student at school and learned very little. As a student at a boarding school in Faenza, Italy, Mussolini stabbed another student and as a result he was expelled. After receiving his diploma in 1901 he taught secondary school. He went to Switzerland in 1902 to avoid military service where he became involved with other socialists. Mussolini returned to Italy in 1904, spent time in the military, and engaged in politics.
Mussolini had become a member of the Socialist Party in 1900 and had begun to attract support of the people. In speeches and articles he was extreme and violent, urging a revolution at any cost but he was also charismatic. Mussolini held several posts as editor and labor leader until he emerged in the 1912 Socialist Party Congress. He became editor of the party’s newspaper at the age of twenty-nine. His powerful writing led him into the Socialist ranks. He called for revolution at a time when revolutionary feelings were sweeping the country.
