Brabantio is a character in William Shakespeare’s play Othello. He is the father of Desdemona, the wife of the play’s protagonist, Othello. Brabantio is a wealthy Venetian senator who is initially opposed to his daughter’s marriage to Othello, a black army general. His anger and disapproval of their marriage drives much of the play’s conflict.
