What Is The Yellow Wallpaper About?

The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, published in 1892. It's about a woman who is treated for what was then called "hysteria" by being confined to her room and forbidden from doing anything that would be considered normal or fun. Her imprisonment is supposed to be helping her, but it actually makes her worse. She begins hallucinating about yellow wallpaper and a woman with long hair trapped behind it.
