The Catcher in the Rye is a novel by J.D. Salinger. It was first published in 1951 and has since been translated into 60 different languages, making it one of the most widely read novels of all time. The book tells the story of Holden Caulfield—a teenager who is kicked out of school and spends his days wandering around New York City, trying to figure out how he fits into society as well as reflecting on his past experiences with people who were important in his life. It's about his coming-of-age, but also about his struggle with mental illness.
