We have no idea how will our society be remembered in 100 years because change is happening so quickly. We know that quantum computing – the introduction of physics into the field of computer science – is going to be extremely important; that computers are going to become really, very tiny, the size of an atom. That’s going to make a huge difference; nano-computing, very small computers that you might swallow inside a pill and that will then learn about your illness and set about curing it; that brings together biological computing as well, where we can print parts of the body.

So I think we’re going to see the increasing infusing of computing into all aspects of our lives. If our Council has its way, we’re going to see an increasing sense of responsibility on the part of technologists to ensure that those developments are for good.

Future Predictions of Our Society: Looking Back and Ahead

When considering our future relationships with technology it can be very interesting to start by looking at what people thought we would be doing today.

No one can know it from now, but highly-regarded scientists (physicists, biologists, sociologists) who study the evolution of the society, human life and the world in general make such kind of predictions based solely on scientific data. This is how the world might look in 100 years from now, according to their publications in scientific journals.

Technological Advancements: 100 Years Ago to Today

I look hundred years into the future hoping that a century is good adequate time for drastic changes to occur that will affect everyone in the world.

While demanding to predict in the future, a superior practice is regularly to look back into the past predictions and see how accurate they have been. 100 years in the past, from now would have been 1916. This was earlier than the nuclear power was saddle and internet was at the faraway horizon. Commercial airline was yet to start in full swing. Transport was slower and less luxurious. So was communication. These services were expensive and not everyone could afford a railway journey in a reserved compartment or make a phone call over the telephone. Politically the world was agitated with a lot of countries fighting for their freedom and England losing its foothold as a global power.

100 years later, we have better and faster modes of communication and these services are much more affordable. Extreme technological advancements like the internet and nuclear power has reshaped how we live connect and conduct business. But we haven't come so distant that someone from 1916, if they were to instantly land up in today's world, will be befuddled beyond limits.

It is interesting to note that though technology has taken an appreciable leap since 1916, human emotions have not evolved considerably. If you read a story from the early 20th century or late 19th century, you would still be able to connect with the emotions of the characters - the delight they feel will make you happy, their reverse will make you sigh. This is because central human feelings do not change or evolve. However, what serves to that feeling undergo change as the world changes.

Our Society's Change in 100 Years

Here is my view on how some of the major fields in the world will change and how it will affect all of us in 100 years to come:

Politics: The lifeblood, of politics has not changed for age; it is surely not going to change in the next century. Global political policy will be much more diplomatic and immigration, business and settlement in different countries will be much easier. Asia will be at the pinnacle of its power with China at the top and India shortly after. This is the time when we will find a lot of Americans, Canadians, Mexicans and Europeans will migrate to Asia for job and business. The immigration flow will basically reverse.

Technology: Two major advancements are expected in the next century. These are Artificial Intelligence and Nano-technology. In a hundred years, we will have elegant and sufficient programs that will drive cars, fly planes, navigate ships, operate on human bodies and do house works like cooking and laundry. Computers, laptops and smart phones will be replaced by something much more looks Simple and suitable. Health care and education will be the two segments which will have the most impact and we will be able to fight off most diseases and have better healthier bodies, unsettled to a favour of beauty healthcare that I think will dominate the market. Better and smarter prosthetic will bring us very close to being a humanoid, but not closer. I also believed that normal education systems will be replaced entirely by effective education system (you will still have to pay for your education though. don't forget it's a commodity like toilet soap)

Culture: No much change here. We will be equally playful and adaptive to other cultures. However, with Asia being the influence continent, eastern philosophies and life style will now take the lead. And no, we won't be dressing in strange clothes and glasses looking like robots!

Geography: A massive change will be observed in the world geography. Sea levels around the world will rise, forcing people living in the coastline to shift inwards. Weather cycle will continue to shift with average summer temperature surging around the world. The ecosystem will also take a charge regardless of our best intentions and hundreds of species will be obliterated from the face of the earth. Natural calamities like earthquakes, hurricane and floods will be common place. The ocean currents will also shift resulting in shift of fishes from coastline and hence fishes will largely be replaced by other alternatives from our diet.

Economy: We will still have different legal tender and will be equally hungry to gather money. However, we will no lengthy in having different cards and accounts and each person will have one account through which they will transact. Electronic money will return e paper money and online transfer will be the control form of exchange. The lifestyles of the poor will improve with education and healthcare seeping into the rural areas, but urbanization will continue to get and generate the economic flux. Work culture will be hugely changed as employees will now work from home rather than from any physical office.

Communication: primary communication will be free for all. We will have faster and more luxurious trains and planes, but that is about all. Teleportation will still be a vision (just because we know a law of physics does not mean we can hack it always) Fossil fuel will either be dwindling or entirely gone. If it lives, the prices for oil will be especially high and only the rich will be able to afford it. If not, electric and solar cars will quarter the roads.

Emotional: spiritually we will be still a demented species, who fear to laugh when we are happy and hope when we are sad. Psychological diseases will grow a lot and psychology adviser (not doctors) will have an enormous business. And among the smart robots, solar cars and beautiful bodies, we will still be pondering alone, searching for meaning and purpose of life.

Communication and Cultural Changes in 100 Years

In 100 years may be we will be using a tiny device size of pellet inserted in ear for all the communication. Or may be a bionic device eating power from body and doing a good job starting from calls, text, emails to video streams. 100 years back, riding a passenger plane was a dream, now days we have high speed jets, jumbo being jets that carry ~800 passengers, space investigating, reached moon, reached mars, exploring other livable planets. Next 100 years may be we will be having space elevators, cheap space observation, or may be living in other planets (being too optimistic may be). Genetic engineering: A vast leap in this field. We have progressed a lot. May be in 100 years we will be having artificial animal (any species, mixed breeds, any quality) including human babies. Artificial organs/ body parts with touch of bionic, which will enhance performance. We have all seen the movies.

We can list many. World would be a different place. An electronic computer can analyze more than one potential answer at a time. The future holds great possibilities as DNA-based computers could be used to perform parallel processing applications, DNA fingerprinting, and the decoding of strategic information such as banking, military, and communications data. Future computers promise to even be faster than today's computers and smaller and thinner than a deck of cards.

Possibly they will become the size of coins and offer 'smart' or intelligence features like specialist intelligence, neural network pattern recognition features, or natural language capabilities. This ability will allow users to more conveniently link with systems and well organized process large amounts of information from a variety of sources: fax, e-mail, Internet, and telephone. These nanobots have been programmed by humans to function as our body's warriors by fighting off cancer cells and viruses that occupy our body.

Conclusion

In my own work, I’m committed to ensuring that technology brings people together rather than separating them.World is full of wonders, really it is. As per the technology is advancing day by day, New creations are coming day After day, Its no doubt that our world is going to be just like what we see on 'Si-Fi movies ' these days. Also, Human Bodies are also evolving so according to Scientist they have predicted that human brains are going to be huger than other parts of their bodies. After 100 years life is going to be completely controlled by robots. Everything is going to be based on Complex AI (Artificial Intelligence). As per Deforestation is taking place, there is a chance that future Generations will never going to See what a tree looks like. These factors are present related predictions. On the other hand there is positive ray of light as well.
