My Trip to Captivating Majorca Island

Categories: Trip

As an avid reader on traveling, and also a history buff, I’ve always been attracted to exotic places around the world. While reading the Moorish history in Al-Andalusia Spain, I came across the famous medieval Moorish historian by name Al-Humaydī. This Moorish historian was born in 1029 A.D in Majorca Island and traveled around Spain and North West Africa. The most intriguing thing that got my attention was ‘Chopin.’ Although the healing wasn’t completed, nevertheless, Majorca Island had a huge impact on Chopin.

He was advised by his physician to visit this Balearic Island; while recuperating he produced some wonderful symphonies. I’m a fan of famous author Agatha Christie, and after knowing that Majorca was an inspiration behind many of her short stories, I couldn’t contain myself and embarked on the journey to this exotic island.

About Majorca

Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Island, bestowed with natural wonder and a mesmerizing coastline. The magnificent 50 km coastline has 262 scintillating beaches.

Besides the beaches, there are some amazing parks and caves, and incredible waterfalls. I certainly concur that the island deserves to be listed under UNESCO world heritage, and it was a challenge to wake me out of my reveries after the trip was over.

Majorca Gastronomy

I’m a foodie and love to try different cuisines. And nothing comes close to rich Mediterranean cuisine. The taste and the aroma of the traditional dishes are imprinted in my psyche. My curiosity led me to explore more about the cuisine.

It’s indeed true that what we eat; reflects on our culture and way of life. Majorca’s cuisine has an incredible mixture of African and Roman influence. I vividly remember the breakfast and the mouthwatering Enssaïmada spiral cake. The fragrance still lingers my mind; it’s a traditional sweet dish from the 17th century. After savoring the Grimalt Cheese for lunch, I gorged into Pa'amb Oli, which is a famous dish, made out of olive oil, garlic, tomato, and ham. For lunch, there was a plethora of seafood that I couldn’t resist, which included squid and oyster. But the indulgence was unstoppable when I saw the Lechona and the mouthwatering Paella.

Mesmerizing Beaches

The incredible coastline of Majorca would certainly attract any mortal. The beaches were just irresistible, even though I’m a novice when it comes to swimming, but the turquoise waters captivated me. Majorca has some of the prettiest beaches in the world. My favorite was Playa de Muro which probably is a never-ending stretch of golden sand. There are plenty of hotels nearby. There seemed to be plenty of tourists around like me, hence, that made me feel at home. One can indulge in water sports, but I preferred a quiet boat trip and strolled around the dreamlike coastline. For a more idyllic experience, I ventured towards Cala Torta and walked around the white sandy coast. The windy condition makes it perfect for water sports, especially for surfing. The deep blue water is best for snorkeling. My heart told me to go for a deep underwater dive, but somehow I wasn’t ready for it. Maybe, a little training would help, or I have to develop some gumption and be a little sportive. Later, I relished the mouthwatering grilled fish from the nearby beach bar. Bird watching I’ve always been inquisitive about birds and also joined some nearby groups of a bird watcher. The moment I heard about Albufera nature reserve, nothing could stop me. Although one could reach there by cycling, I preferred to walk. I was spellbound to know that there are nearly 200 species of birds, it was an amazing experience to momentarily turn into an amateur ornithologist, and nevertheless, I could spot Eleonora’s falcons and purple herons. It was indeed a wonderful journey.

However, one cannot fully explore the majestic Majorca Island in entirety, hence, planning for the next tour shortly.
