My Experience, Hardship and Decisions

I never understood what hardship meant till I came in contact with life. Life is hard when there is no financial backing to assist you of your endeavors. I am an African, a young Ghanaian man striving to make it in life and put food on the table for my family back home, who have sacrificed all they have to get me here in Germany to pursue my Master’s degree.

Through the successes of my efforts, I had a tough time financially completing my High school and Tertiary, as my parents did not have enough but strived harder in other to make ends meet.

I also had to get a part time job to take care of my feeding and other stationery needed. We were not rich neither were we poor, I realized that poverty was just a societal limitation. I was still thriving in school, leading faith-based activities and taking active roles in community service. My low-income position was not an obstruction but a launching pad to stimulate and drive my success.

Through my tertiary education I lost my father and I was burdened with my little brother on my mother who did not have a concrete job we could rely on because she was a cleaner in Azmera Restaurant. Visiting my mother, she sometimes hid to do most of the chores not letting me see what she does in there. I knew the job did not pay much but my mother loved the fact that she was able to meet new people locally and internationally.

telling me about the number of foreigners that walked in the restaurant and how friendly they were to her, the lovely reception and how coordinated the place was to receive the lovely visitors, through that I had a vision to one day host such people and find a better place for my mother to be so she can still make new foreign and local friends as this will make her smile.

So, when I put in an application to pursue this Masters, she stood by me and supported in prayers that I will be selected and when I was selected at the end, she could not hold back her tears as to how proud she was of me. I sincerely hope am able to complete this Masters and do something big with this knowledge in my home country and make my mother proud and fulfill the promise I made to her. Researching on Tourism in Ghana I found out that my home country records a vast number of people ranging 100, 000 and more in a year. That encouraged me the most to take on this discipline. I wish to establish a Resort host them the best possible way in other to make Ghana a memorable and they will enjoy their stay I have always believed that there is no such thing as enough education. Education allows us to grow, and to achieve bigger and better things. My past education has allowed me to get to where I am today.

I'm pursuing an MA International Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management to deepen my knowledge and develop my leadership skills. I believe that I will continue to contribute to the society in which i will find myself in the future. My passion and vision of starting my own company and making my mother and little brother proud is a unique and valuable perspective. With this scholarship, it will assist me greatly in my endeavors and allow me to accomplish my career goals and continue focusing on my studies instead of worrying about making money and sending more back home. It will be an investment into myself, my family and home country.
