Jasper Jones is a young adult novel by Australian author Craig Silvey. The book was first published in 2009 and has been reprinted several times. It was shortlisted for several literary awards, including the 2010 Miles Franklin Award.
The novel is set in the small town of Corrigan in Western Australia during the late 1960s. The town is racially divided between the white settlers and the Aboriginal people. Jasper Jones, the novel’s protagonist, is an Aboriginal boy who is accused of murdering a white girl, Laura Wishart.
Jasper Jones is shunned by the townspeople, but he is taken in by the family of his best friend, Charlie Bucktin. Charlie helps Jasper to clear his name and they discover that the real killer is Laura’s father, Mr. Wishart.
The novel explores themes of racism, injustice, and the importance of friendship and family.
