Essays on Gengangere

The play is about Gregers Werle, a young man who has returned home after many years to uncover the truth about his father’s responsibility for the death of his best friend, Hialmar Ekdal. Gregers is convinced that his father, Gerald, is guilty and sets out to prove it. However, as he delves deeper into the past, he discovers that the truth is much more complicated than he thought. The play is a tragedy about the destructiveness of truth and the impossibility of ever really knowing what happened in the past.
