Carmilla is a novel by Irish author Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, first published in 1872. The story is narrated by Laura, a young woman who lives with her father in a castle in the middle of a forest in Austria. Laura becomes friends with Carmilla, a girl who appears to be about her own age.Carmilla is a stylish and beautiful girl, but she is also a vampire. She begins to drain the life out of Laura, and Laura’s father is powerless to stop her. Carmilla is finally destroyed when Laura’s true love, a vampire hunter named Arthur, comes to the castle and kills her.This gothic horror story is one of the earliest examples of vampire fiction, and it has influenced many later works in the genre.
