Not only do we actually travel but our minds also allows us to travel within it. Many books give us examples of how our minds are affected and how we get through life. In the time of the Butterflies, by Julia Alvarez, is a story broken up in three parts about the Mirabal sisters and their families. Each part started off with Dede telling her life story with an interviewer. The narrators are the four sisters, Dede, Patria, Maria Teresa, and Minerva, known as the butterflies.
Dede has two parts which one begins in 1994 telling her life story and other began in 1943 which tells the story of when her sisters and family were all together and alive. Dede tells the interviewer all about what she and her sisters had to face living in the Dominican Republic and how it has affected her in the present day. Dede’s mind allowed her to travel back in time just to tell her and her sister's story.
Traveling isn’t always about going place to place but it's about learning and facing the things you experienced. Your mind will allow you to travel back in time and remember every challenge and struggle that was thrown your way. It's not always easy but it's something we all have to live with. In the story, Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, Gregor Samsa, who is a traveling salesman, wakes up and finds himself transformed into a large insect. He thought it was a dream but once he realized he couldn't move in his new body, he knew something was wrong.
Throughout the story, Gregor struggles to live and his body and face the negativity from his family but noticed that we were the same person within. We can learn how we can travel and be a “new person” but at the end of the day, we’ll always know who we really are because of our true identity. We can be treated and seen less of who we are but no one determines us for us. Traveling doesn't always have to be going places physically but it can affect us mentally and emotionally.
Overall throughout my research, I’ve learned that traveling is everything. It's in every piece of writing, everyone history, and everyone future. It's not about where we go, it about what we learn along our journey and how it affects us and how it makes a better person out of us.
You’re always gonna learn something no matter what journey you take or how long it takes. Traveling in literature has shown us all that as readers that we all have a purpose to see more to life that's beyond us. We read about traveling everywhere we go. We become better, smart, and experienced individuals who challenged ourselves to see that traveling is apart of us. We don't even have to travel to be successful but we can travel to figure out who were are. We travel to find our true purpose out of life and figure of who we want to be so we can inspire others that its a step that everyone should be willing to take. We travel to get away to relieve our stress and take a break from what's going on in our personal lives and be able to have freedom and be satisfied with our lives. W travel to create better bonds and connections with ourselves and our families.
We travel to meet new people and learn about other cultures. We travel to relieve our stress and take a break from what's going on in our personal lives. We travel to see more of the world that we never have seen before. We travel to contribute to the world so we can make it a better environment. We travel to help others all across the world. We travel to escape our past, the things we are scared of because we get lost in our own shoes. We may find a new identity that will help us live the life we always wanted to live or we may stick to our true identity and make living it worth it. We'll always face many hardships through every journey but it's up to us to make the best life out of it.
