You may find the multiple plotlines hard to follow, as the movie switches perspective between Batman, Joker, Harvey, and other characters. But these somewhat complex plotlines only add more volume to the lore of the Batman universe as well as providing some interesting interactions between the separate characters.

The acting for this film was phenomenal, with Heath Ledger raising the bar and setting the standards very high for future Joker actors. His performance as Joker very clearly expressed the mentality of the character, making him both hysterical and terrifying altogether.

Christain Bale’s performance was very good, and he hit the nail right on the head with the iconically grungy Batman voice.

Many interesting effects were implemented into the movie, one of which is the Bat Bike. The Bat Bike had to be designed to be ejected from the Batmobile with much fluidity, and of course it had to actually work. A fully functioning Bat Bike was created using the engine of a Honda with a fiberglass kit. The Bike surprisingly held up in many stress and agility tests, but Christopher Nolan had another problem to solve. He wanted the Bat Bike to sound powerful, but sleek and modern. Technical engineers worked with sound files to finally create the end product, they achieved this by using the sounds of many sports cars layered over each other, and making it so that the pitch of the vehicle was always increasing when it was in frame. The final result was impressive and beautiful.

Overall, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight paved the way and set the bar for future superhero movies, and influenced many creators to make intense, action-packed masterpieces.
