PROJECT SCHEDULE

Within the six months period of the industrial training, the job specification mainly involving Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and network support. The IT department is in charge to monitor the manufacturing production. IT MES job scope involve manufacturing operation, including the hardware and software. Thus, the student needs to learn about the hardware use such as MCC (Mass Command Centre) and also the application. MCC is use to monitor the production line for each task. There are total seven phase of car manufacturing process, which is Body 1, Body 2, Painting, TF1, TF 2, Lulus and Delivery. Each phases needs to be monitor so that the actual production will meet the target.

The project that have been assigned for the industrial training student mainly involve the IT production.

Master Schedule for Practical Student

A master schedule have been arrange by the supervisor within the six month training period for the students. Figure is the schedule propose by the supervisor :

Figure 2 shows the master schedule plan for the practical student. The daily job for the students is involving the MES and also network support. For the first two weeks of the training, students will learn about the MES operation, as the student will be brought to the site such as Body Shop, Trim and Final, Site AC and others.

There are three projects assigned by the supervisor. These project involve the PTM Plant Expansion IT Packages Project and MES Command Centre. However, only the first project has been confirmed while the other two might change depends on the situation. The first project, which is the MCC Analytic Software Tools, is a project in which the student needs to develop a dashboard for the production process. The project is call Hourly Production Performance Status, in which will calculate the performance for each manufacturing processes. This project will be discuss further in the next chapter.

CHAPTER 3

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Project Background

Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn Bhd is an automotive company and also automobile corporation in which specialized and active in car manufacturing, design, distribution and also sales. The company is established on May 6, 2003 and mainly operates in wholesale trade industry. For business and manufacturing processes, production performance status is one of the important aspect to be considered and monitored. Production is a process in which the goods are made or manufactured, which essentially make the production process is one of the most important factors in business, as no sale can be done without it.

Production has become one of the main concerns because the business depends on it. Thus, to monitor the performance status of the production, a dashboard is used. Dashboards are one of the tools that can be used to get an overview of the production's performance, and have been widely used by companies around the globe. In this project, a dashboard about the hourly production performance status is created to monitor and analyse the production process of the automobiles in Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn Bhd.

Problem Statement

It is crucial for a business company to monitor and control the production process. The company can plan a business strategy to increase the productivity and quality of their goods, and also check the efficiency of the production performance. Thus, the business company needs to find a way so that they can get an overview about the production based on the data that have been collected and retrieved.

Objectives

The main objectives of this project is to develop a dashboard that will summarize the hourly production performance of the automobiles in Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn Bhd. The main objectives are split and decomposed into few objectives, which is:

Planning a project to develop a dashboard for automobile production.

Develop a dashboard that contains the production processes, number of production, plan and actual production, number of pass goods and number of delivery goods hourly.

A dashboard that contains accurate and reliable data.

Scope

A dashboard must contain all the related and important information to be display with an accurate data and information. By using MCC (Mass Command Centre) to monitor and retrieve the data, a dashboard is developed to get an overview of the monitor performance.

Using the MCC, all the data in each of the production process which is Body 1, Body 2, Painting, TF 1, TF 2, Pass and Delivery is obtained. The target plan and actual production data is gather, compare and calculate to get the performance percentage of each process.

CHAPTER 4

METHODOLOGY

For the development of the project, the methodology used is the Waterfall model. The waterfall model is used because it is more simple, easy to understand and suitable for the project. There are five phases in this project, which is planning, requirement and analysis, design, development and testing. Figure 3 shows the waterfall methodology for this project.

Figure 3: Waterfall Model for Hourly Production Performance Status

Planning phase is the first and an important phase in which the planning and feasibility study is conducted to determine the purpose and understanding the project. A schedule is also plan and develop to meet the deadlines and milestones of the project. All the tasks in the plan schedule must be follow so that the project can finish before the deadlines.

The second phase is the requirement and analysis. In this phase, the user requirement for the project is collecting and examine to understand the requirement needs. All the information required for the project is gathered and analyse.

The third phase is design. In this phase, by considering all the requirement and information from the previous phases, the dashboard prototype design is created. For the next phase, which is the development phase, is the process of developing the dashboard. This phase requires more time compared to other phases and more crucial.

The last phase is the testing phase. The data is tested to check the accuracy as well as the results. This phase is important to make sure that the dashboard contains all the information and data needed, and also accurate.

Project Planning

The project requires two months to finish starting from 1st August 2019 until 30th September 2019. Thus, to make sure the project will be finished on time, a schedule is developed contains all the task, due date and milestones. Figure 2 shows the schedule plan for the project.

Each of the phases is decomposed with several tasks that needs to be completed before the due date. There are three milestones in the project, in which to get the verification of the reports. The timeframes or durations for each phase is determined and divided according to the tasks that need to be completed. Each of the phases and tasks is analyse to plan and estimate the suitable timeframes for them to complete. A Gantt chart created to illustrate the project schedule. Both of the schedules must be follow within the timeframes to avoid any delay or incomplete task.

Deliverables

There are certain deliverables that need to be done as the results of the tasks perform. Table 1 below shows the deliverable for each of the phases.

Potential Problem

There are several potential problem that can be assume will happen or bound to during the project development. These potential problems can lead the project completion to be delay or the decrease the quality of the dashboard. Below are the possible potential problems that can occur during the project development:

Potential Problem Counter Measure

  • Missed deadlines Propose a recovery plan to achieve the milestones in the exact date
  • Vague or changing requirement Make sure the requirements gather during phase two is strong and valid
  • Data accuracy Reviewing the data and set the data quality goals
  • Lack or inconsistent data Retrieve the data from the right sources and make sure the data is valid

Conclusion

Industrial training gives a lot of benefits to the students to gain more knowledge and experience for the future. Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn Bhd offered knowledge and experience for the student related to the course and subject.

For the assign project, Hourly Production Performance Status is a project in which a performance dashboard regarding the manufacturing and production of automobiles at Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn Bhd, developed based on the data in each process per hour. This project requires two months to complete. Thus, a schedule was designed and a Gantt chart was generated to facilitate the flow of the project. The feasibility study was conducted to gain more knowledge and exposure about the nature of the project such as problem statement, objectives, scope and others. With this information, the process of developing the dashboard will be more flexible and efficient, aiming towards to achieve the objectives stated.
