I am going to discuss about the number of cases in my district and calculate mean, median, mode with that data. In this paper I am taking Kadapa district, in Andhra Pradesh.

Introduction

The Corona Virus pandemic, which is also known as the COVID-19 pandemic, is an ongoing pandemic of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) caused by severe acute respiratory problems. It will spread from one person to another very fastly and easily. It will spread mainly through the infected droplets produced during talking, coughing, and sneezing. Some droplets may rapidly fall to the ground which is also one of the main causes of spread of disease; however some can be floating in air as aerosols, especially in covered spaces.

It may also be transmitted through unhygienic surfaces, the research done in June 2020 found out that 40–45% of infected people are asymptomatic, although it is not fully confirmed that in which cases there are symptoms and in what cases there are no symptoms. People remain infectious in normal cases for 7-12 days, and up to two weeks in critical cases. Complications may include pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The main symptoms to recognize this virus include sever cough, fever, exhaustion, breathing problems or breathing difficulties, and loss of smell and taste. The incubation period is may be around five days but may vary from two to 14 days.

Many people are trying to prepare vaccine for this infectious disease, although none have succeeded in clinically proving their safety and effectiveness. There is no proper and well known specific antiviral medication, so primary treatment is at present suggestive. It is recommended to follow preventive measures which include washing hands and using hand sanitizers, covering mouth when coughing, following social distancing, wearing a face mask while going to public places and while talking with others, disinfecting surfaces with sanitizers, ventilating and air-filtering, and monitoring and self-isolation for people who have symptoms and who suspect that they may be infected. Government came up with lockdowns, and implementing travel restrictions, to reduce the spread of the disease. Due to this pandemic there is social and economic disruption across the world, including the largest global decline from the time of Great Depression.

According to estimations, up to 100 million people have fallen into extreme poverty and global famines are affecting 130 million people . This pandemic situation led to postponement of most of the important cultural events, most of the religious, political and sports events were cancelled. Educational institutions have been closed partially or fully, most of these educational institutions switched to online schooling. Many celebrities, politicians and other prominent public figures have published misinformation about it. Many commercial institutions have offered for conducting at-home tests, supposed preventives, and 'miracle' cures. Most of the religious groups in the country have claimed that their faith will protect them from the virus. Some group of people has claimed that the virus is a bio weapon leaked from a laboratory accidentally or purposefully.

Case Count Analysis in Kadapa District

The reported COVID-19 cases in Kadapa district from April to September serve as the data set for this analysis. The monthly case counts are as follows:

  • April: 73 Cases
  • May: 116 Cases
  • June: 940 Cases
  • July: 7876 Cases
  • August: 26119 Cases
  • September (till 15th): 37152 Cases

Calculation of Mean, Median and Mode

Mean= sum of observations / number of observation

Mean= 73+116+940+7876+26119+37152/ 6

Mean= 72276 / 6

Mean= 12046

Mean of the data is 12046

Median of number of cases:

Median= median is the value of the variable which divides into two equal parts

73, 116, 940, 7876, 26119, 37152

N= number of observation = 6

Median= (n/2) th observation + (n/2+1) th observation / 2

Median=940+7876 / 2

Median = 8816 / 2

Median = 4408

Median of the data is 4408

Mode of the number of cases:

Mode is the value which occur maximum number of times.

73, 116, 940, 7876, 26119, 37152

In the above series all the numbers occurred only one time so the mode is nil.

Statistical Analysis

It is been observed that the Corona cases are increasing drastically from one month to another month. Even though the government is taking many measures to reduce the spread of the infectious disease by imposing lockdown and other by implementing various other things. Th cases are not coming down; they are doubled from month to month. According to me the main reason for the unexpected increase in the number of cases is due to lifting of lockdown by the government. In the beginning of the corona pandemic in India many other countries are affected by it severely. So, we started taking care in advance by imposing lockdown and all. So the cases were limited in the beginning.

When there is a slight decrease in the cases, they removed lockdown and people started moving freely in public places this is one of the reason for drastic increase in the number of cases. The number of COVID deaths is increasing and more than 83000 deaths are recorded in India. India stands in second place across world in number of corona cases after the U.S. which is at first place. Although the number of recovered cases is also increasing still there is a need to take proper care. The people should get proper awareness about the situation and they should take proper precautions to reduce infection. Because of increased testing capacity the number of mild cases were detected and it resulted in early recovery of patient from disease and so the number of deaths are reducing even though the cases are increasing.

Analysis and Discussion

The statistical analysis reveals a significant increase in COVID-19 cases from April to September, with the mean case count reaching 12046. The median, at 4408, indicates a skewed distribution, reflecting a rapid escalation in cases over time. The absence of a mode underscores the unique and increasing case count each month, highlighting the pandemic's evolving nature.

The surge in cases post-lockdown lifting suggests a correlation between increased social interaction and virus transmission. Despite the rising case count, the increase in testing and early detection may contribute to higher recovery rates and a reduction in mortality.

Conclusion

From the above information corona virus spread is continuing across the world and the number of corona virus cases is increasing day by day in our country. There is a need of taking proper care and caution to protect ourselves from the dangerous disease. Mainly older people, Heart patients and also people who have any serious health problems like lung disorders, obesity, diabetic patients, and those who have week immunity system, are mostly affected by this disease. So, this people should be more careful. The people who have more immune power can recover from the disease. It is better to take proper medication and consult doctor if there are any symptoms of virus. Protect yourself and prevent unnecessary risk. Even though we didn’t get the vaccine yet for corona virus, we can reduce the risk of virus.

The World Health Organization and the government have come up with many preventive measures, we have to follow the precautions like washing hands and using hand sanitizers, avoid attending large events and mass gatherings, where risk of infection is more, follow social distancing by keeping 6 feet distance between person to person, stay away from people who are suffering from cough or fever or any other disease, avoid going out for unnecessary reasons, use hand glows and face mask while going into public places like shops, market etc., use tissue or cover your nose and mouth with elbow when you cough or sneeze, avoid rubbing your eyes nose with hands, taking bath after coming from outside. By following all this kind of precautions we should take care of ourselves and our society. If we come out of house it will affect not only us but also our society. As it spread from person to person we must take proper care. Not taking proper measures will not only affect you but also our near and dear ones. So, stay home and stay safe.
