Your essay should always create major points based off your thesis Writers tend to challenge their needs when their trying to get their purpose across and to make a clear and specific statement of it. The first step into engaging the process of inquiry, should abide by a formulated question. By using a question it serve as a tool to help express your working thesis. "A working thesis is valuable in the early stages of writing because it helps you read selectively, in the same way that your issue-based question guides your inquiry" (From Inquiry To Academic Writing p. 100). You should never accept your writing thesis as a final position. So therefore, you can continue to practice and test your statement as you read and write.

The book provides a three model examples on how to develop a thesis. The three models consist of correcting-misinterpretations, filling the gap, and modifying what others have said model. The first model by the name correcting misinterpretations consists of correcting the argument. "This model is used to correct writers whose arguments you believe have misconstrued one or more important aspects of an issue" (From Inquiry To Academic Writing). This concept helps the thesis take the form of a concerning fact of a claim. Second is the filling the gap model. This model refers to what other may have overlooked or ignored in discussing a given issue. By using this model it makes a claim for using a thesis. The last model of organizing your thesis is considered as the modifying what others have said. This particular model makes assumption that others have a mutual understanding.

For example it should consider different claims that pertain to your essay. These three models help you organize the information that you gather for the response of the guiding question. Many writers think of a thesis statement as an umbrella, " everything that you carry along in your essay have to fit under this umbrella, and if you try to take on packages that don't fit, you will either have to get a bigger umbrella or something's going to get wet"(mom). with the few ideas throughout the essay they should help you perfect your thesis statement.
