World Population Overview and Problems Related to Overpopulation

Is the increasing population responsible for all the problems of Bangladesh?

The increasing population of Bangladesh plays a large part in all the problems that the country faces. In the article, Morality of Population Control of Bangladesh, Fahmina Ahmed explains that the government of Bangladesh has named its rapid population growth as its number one problem and a major obstruction to economic development and progress.

She describes that the size of Bangladesh is roughly the size of the state of Illinois in the United States but has a population that is about half of the entire United States population.

The article points out that the quality of life in this country is severely linked to the population growth (Ahmed 1999). This increase in population also reduces the available resources the country has, and also plays a role in the degradation of the environment. Since this population growth is so rapid in respects to the countries size, it is a huge contributing factor to many problems in the country.

It also worsens or increases the influences that other minor problems will have on the countries quality of life.

Study the two Age Pyramids given. Explain in detail what these pyramids are telling you.

The Age Pyramid for Kenya and the second one given both show that the majority of the countries' populations are younger than 30. This means that Kenya and the country displayed in the second pyramid will both experience population growth in the future. The Age Pyramid for the United Stated has about the same number of people in each age group.

This means that it is a stable population, which means it will not experience any population growth. According to the Human Biology textbook, the second pyramid and the pyramid for Kenya are both shaped like a pyramid, which indicates that it is a less industrialized country (Johnson 2014). This means that the country is less able to provide for their citizens due to the increase in population. The book also explains that the age pyramid shape for the United States, which is more like a bullet, indicates that it is a more industrialized country (Johnson 2014). This means that the countries population will continue to be stable in the future generations.

Create a graph of human population growth and use it to predict future growth. Identify factors that affect population growth.

According to the graph of the data provided, as the years increase, population increases along with the rate of the population growth. According to the Human Biology textbook, agricultural development and animal domestication are recent factors that have affected human population growth. The industrial revolution, and newly discovered vaccines and antibiotics to treat illnesses are also factors that have recently affected the growth of human population. The textbook also explains the factors that affect population growth for all types of populations.

Factors explained in the textbook include the number of offspring produced by each reproducing member, amount of time for each individual to mature reproductively, the ratio of males to female, the amount of individuals that are reproductive age, and the factors that prevent organisms from reproducing (Johnson 2014). This is called Environmental Resistance, which includes limitations on nutrients, energy, and space, disease, predation, by other organisms, environmental toxins, and many other factors.

What factors contributed to the world's overall population growth in the last 365 years. What will happen when the human population exceeds the earth's carrying capacity?

The main factor that influenced the overall population growth in the last 365 years was the Industrial Revolution. Johnson explains in his book that factors that have influenced human reproduction and survival since the 1700s includes advances in communication and transportation, newly discovered technologies for feeding and housing more people, and medical care, including the discovery of antibiotics and vaccines (Johnson 2014).

The textbook also explains that some scientists believe that the concept of carrying capacity does not apply to humans because of our ability to adjust our environment in order to meet our needs. Johnson goes on to explain that humans may have the ability to voluntary limit population growth before the carrying capacity is actually reached.

How many times did the population double? What years did it double, and how long did it take for it to double?

Warren Hern states in his article that the human population has doubled about 32 times so far since the beginning of time. He explains that since the year 1 A.D. the human population has doubled 6 times. The article states that human population doubling time for the years 1650 was 200 years, 1850 was 80 years, 1930 was 46 years, 1976 was 37 years, and 2013 was 40 years. This means that anyone who was 40 years or older in the year 1998 are the first generation in history to have lived through a doubling of the world population.
