Database structure In order to understand the application we need to understand the data base structure. Our database has 3 tables: 1. user table: this table contain the users that are allowed to use the application ant it consist of 3 columns: username – the user name for the application pass – the password for the user name super_user – this column indicates whether this user is an application manager or just a network manager.
2. AP table: this table contain the information about all of the network access point: the access point name, IP number, location and is it active or not. 3. Apusers table: this table contain the information about all of the network users: the users names, id number, the network card MAC address and the access points that the users is allowed to connect. This table is a dynamic table because it is constantly changing, this table is linked to the AP table and for each access point that we add to the AP table we add a new column to this table.
In the access points columns each cell indicate whether the user is allowed to connect to this access point or not Application structure The application includes 3 modules: 1. Main application – this module includes the network manager interface such as the login window, user management functions and Access Point management functions. 2. Database interface – this module deals with the access to the database using SQL. 3. Access Point configuration – this module deals with the access to the Access Points in order to get or set the Access Point properties using the SNMP protocol.
The main application includes 3 pages: the login page, the application users management page and the wireless LAN, users and access points management page. The login page consists of a login name and password text boxes in which the user can enter his login and password. If the user is defined as a “super manager” in the database, which means that this user is permitted to manage the application users, then the next page that this user will see is the application users management screen; otherwise the next page will be the wireless LAN management screen.
The super manager page allows the manager to change the application users database and to continue to the wireless LAN management page using the hyperlink. This page includes functions for maintaining the application users database: add user, remove user and show all users. Using those functions the super manager can control the application users definition (a regular or a super user), passwords and user name. The network manager page allows the manager to change the wireless network users database and the wireless network access point database.
The web page consists of 2 parts: users management and AP management. The users management part uses the add user, remove user, show all users and update user functions: Add user: in this function we add the user name, user ID, user MAC address and the list of access points that the user is allowed to connect to. Remove user: in this function we select the user to remove. Show all users: opens a table with the user table information from the data base. Update user: in this function we select the user to update and then change the details we want to update.
The APs management part uses the: add AP, remove AP, show all APs and update AP functions: Add AP: in this function we add the AP name, AP IP, AP location and declare whether this AP is active or not. Remove AP: in this function we select the AP to remove. Show all APs: opens a table with the APs table from the database. Update AP: in this function we select the AP to update and then change the details we want to update. In the appendixes you can find the code of each function mentioned above.
