William Heinemann

Introduction Section: Paragraphs 1 and 2

William Heinemann, the article’s managed to give a clear description of who Wangari Maathai is in this particular section of the composition. He further noted that like the other women feminists of her time, Maathai was indeed a passionate yet aggressive individual who knew what she wanted and exactly knew what she wanted out of her life.  As a woman, Maathai described herself to be someone who used to amount to nothing and yet was able to make a difference in the society that she has been living in. It was not only her beliefs but also her personal principles in life that drove her to become the fighter that she has become as she fought against the authoritarian rule of the Kenyan government under Daniel Arap Moi.

Her idealism: Paragraphs 3 to 5

She believed that humans as individuals have their own rights of expressing themselves freely especially if they know that what they believe in could rightfully bring changes to the society that they are living in. She strongly agreed to the idea of making one’s life worthwhile through pursuing matters that would better the welfare of others. It is through this that a person is able to realize the real sense of his life as an individual sharing his life with others for a meaningful cause.

Her life and the Society: Paragraph 6 to 8

Maathai’s turn of life situation shows the gradual process by which dreams itself could bring its dreamer to the right track towards success. Her life has indeed been a source of inspiration for those who have almost lost hope in finding for themselves a reason of their life.

A Change Making Change: Paragraphs 9 to 10

The transformation that she has actually gone through during her lifetime goes on to show that a person wanting change should indeed be ready of numerous sacrifices, intended transformations in life to be able to insist the change that one aims to attain for others. The growth of the education practice of Maathai certainly gave her more knowledge on the matter that she has long been fighting for, thus giving her the right confidence to make things happen according to the ways by which she thinks they should.

William Heinemann’s approach in writing the life story of an ordinary woman trying to make change in the society such as that of Wangari Maathai herself could actually be considered effective in presentation. Although the writing is quite common, it could not be denied that the in depth explanation of the roots of the idealisms that Maathai believed and how she was actually able to create a possible connection on her dreams and her works in life created a more evaluative approach on showing the readers how an ordinary person could actually make great changes within the society tat he is living in.

It could also be observed that Heinemann created a more vivid picture of a modern woman from narrating the life of Maathai. He further noted the effect of family and cultural background of a person, a woman in particular, towards the views that she has in life. Through explaining the cultural and family roots of his character, he was able to now how these factors of living actually affect a person’s behavior and idealisms in life.

Furthermore, Heinemann’s focus in writing, which is showing the reasons behind a person’s motivation towards making change, has actually made the reading more reflective for the reader’s part. Considerably, it is through this approach that the readers are rather moved to think on how they themselves are able to create a reason for living and a push for making change as ordinary individuals like that of Wangari Maathai.
