Why Abortions Should Be Illegal?

“I’ve done a lot of ‘bad’ things in my life. I’ve made choices that will forever haunt me no matter how much money I shell out for a shrink. But the choice that I made on that day, the choice to sign my name on a piece of paper that would give my consent to terminating a pregnancy is chief among the ones I regret most. Yes, I regret my abortion. This is a statement from Jamie Berube. She got an abortion when she was just six weeks pregnant.

According to Boundforlife.com, 59.1 million babies have been aborted since 1973 to 2017. This means 59.1 million people did not get a chance at life, 59.1 million, that is a huge number, who knows what they would have done with their lives, and other lives they could have had an impact on. Many think abortions are helpful if you don’t want or can’t handle a baby, but what they don’t know it the damage it can cause.

Let’s break down what happens during the first 24 weeks of development. According to Baby Center, at 6 weeks Facial features (like eyes and nostrils) are beginning to form, and little buds appear where arms and legs will develop. At 10 weeks, The embryo has become a fetus. His vital organs, such as kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver, are starting to function. Tiny fingernails and toenails are starting to form. At 15 weeks, Your baby can see the light that filters in from outside your womb, even though her eyelids are still shut. 19 weeks, Your baby can hear your heartbeat and sounds that come from outside your body, such as your partner's voice. Finally week 23-24, Your baby's sense of movement has developed, so he can feel the motion of you moving. His sense of hearing continues to improve and you could be able to see him squirm. Your baby's taste buds are developing. Her brain is growing very quickly, and her hair may be growing, too. She's almost a foot long and weighs just over a pound. What does all of this mean? It means that the baby is starting to be able to sense what is going on around it. Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life also give scientific evidence and reasoning that babies can feel pain after 20 weeks of development. Their sense of touch is so sensitive that even dragging a strand of hair over the baby’s hand will cause them to make a fist. The baby is so sensitive that surgeons entering the womb to perform corrective procedures on tiny unborn babies have seen those babies flinch, jerk and recoil from sharp objects and incisions. So when you decide to get an abortion, what you think might be a no harm done procedure is actually cause physical harm to another human being.

The are possible side effects that having an abortion can have, they can vary depending on the woman. Having an abortion can have many negative side effects on a mother’s body including bleeding, infection, and even death. It is very possible to experience side effects for as long as 2-4 weeks after having an abortion. The symptoms can be frequently experienced and are called anticipated side effects. These symptoms include abdominal pain and cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, spotting, and bleeding. Symptoms have the potential to become more serious and even become fatal. These serious complications happen in fewer than 1 out of 100 in the first trimester abortions, and 1 out of 50 late-term abortions. Symptoms may include heavy or persistent bleeding, sepsis or other infections, damage to the cervix, scarring of the uterine lining, perforation of the uterus, damage to other organs and even death. According to Life Defender, women have died on the table during the abortion process, there have also been multiple cases where women die days later due to complications from the abortion. Having an abortion can have lasting traumatic effects on a mother. An abortion may seem like a simple choice to some women but it is an action that can not be undone. According to an article posted on Life Defender by Emily Brown, of women who had an abortion, 94% of them regret it. Abortions can affect each woman differently and are more common than physical side effects. These effects vary from person to person in duration and intensity. The emotional and psychological side effects include; regret, anger, guilt, shame, a sense of loneliness or isolation, loss of self-confidence, insomnia or nightmares, relationship issues, suicidal thoughts and feelings, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. According to Abortion Facts, a teenage girl is 10 times more likely to attempt suicide if she has had an abortion in the last six months that is a comparable teenage girl who has not had an abortion.

It is possible for anyone to experience an unexpected emotional or psychological side effect following an abortion. Women often report that the abortion procedure affected them more than they expected. It is also possible for some individuals to experience some type of emotional or psychological troubles. Those who believe that the fetus inside of you is not a baby until it is born are less likely to experience these symptoms but those who believe that it is a baby are more likely to experience the negative effects that encompass having an abortion.

Lastly, the barbaric ways abortions have, or are done. According to Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, these are some methods used;Partial-birth abortion: The unborn baby is delivered feet first, except for the head, which is punctured at the base of the skull with a sharp object. The brain is then suctioned out, killing the child. Luckily, this method was outlawed in the United States in 2007. Dilation and Evacuation: Sharp-edged instruments are used to grasp, twist and tear the baby’s body into pieces, which are then removed from the womb. Saline abortion: Salt water is injected into the womb through the mother’s abdomen. The unborn baby swallows this fluid, is poisoned and dies in a process that sometimes takes 24 hours. The toxic saline solution causes severe burns over the unborn child’s entire body. If you thought no harm was done during abortions, what do you think after hearing those methods? They have the baby choke on the saline solution which leaves severe burns on the baby, cut the baby up, and even suction the brain out. How does this not harm the baby? Our society needs to realize the true damage abortions are causing.

It is not a solution to the problem, it most likely will cause more issues later in life. Whether it be physical, emotional, or suffering for the baby. I will leave you with the words of Jamie Berube who also said this about her abortion, “I regret not thinking through it more carefully. I regret not considering that I might have been a really great mom. And I regret that there’s no amount of regret that can reverse the decision I made.”
