What Is Sociological Imagination And How Can You Use It?

The sociological imagination is a capacity, ability, and quality of mind that allows an individual to understand and connect his or her life with the forces and dynamics that impact it. The sociological perspective or in the other words sociological imagination helps people see through a bordering scope of society. Being a small part of the general category of society, exactly working-class adult, student, or someone else you should view the world through by society. My socialization agent belongs to the people at university and peers who surround me every day because all of them will be taking part in will help to expand our sociological imagination.

As I am coming from a working-class family, I need to go to school then to university for my social status, in other words, I need to go by the steps of my parents. As I mentioned before I am from the working-class my parents always wanted more for me, that’s why I studied privet schools, first I studied privet elementary school and after I graduated from private high school in my country.

So studying in a private school showed me the difference between me and my friends. I knew that I can do more in comparison with my friends not because I did believe myself, but my parents did believe in my capability. That is right because when you study in a private school you need to pay tuition fees and a lot of people do not have money to study in that type of school.

After private school, I applied for a university in Azerbaijan at which I am currently studying. In Azerbaijan, I didn’t face any cultural difference, but my problem was the language barrier which I figured out in my first four-month. From being in my current university students' life, my entire life that I learn so much not only academically, but that I do not have settle for what our social class or social location places us.

Gender discrimination is one of the biggest issues in our world and all countries working to decrease the rate of it. In the schools that I studied, I have faced a lot of gender discrimination. For instance, boys were not allowed to seat with girls on one desk. Girls and boys were separated from each other. Teachers did not allow them to walk around school together or if any of them had a relationship with each other teacher inform the director of school immediately and parents were called to the school.

Although we should know how to separate personal and public issues. For example, a student could be coming to class late because of his or her laziness this would be called personal issues, but the whole-class comes late than it is a public issue, meaning there is problem with that class. Social imagination engages in, the minority status, gender, and family structure.

For all this problem solution is education. Doing good academically we can branch into different fields and expand our experiences. Social perspective plays a huge part of making a decision going to university or college because everyone wants more in life not just what they were given. People's lives are shaped by society.

In conclusion, my sociological imagination brought me where I am today. As being humans, we can not let our social location determine our abilities. We must explore beyond where we are and what we are given by life. Humans must defeat their ordinary life by not setting themselves up for limited expectations in society and we should also try to exceed our or everyone else’s expectations in our life.
