What Is Organic Compounds?

An organic compound belongs to gaseous, liquid, or solid chemical compounds whose molecules contain carbon. Some types of carbon that contain compounds such as carbides, carbonates, and oxides of carbon and cyanides are sometimes classified as inorganic. AllotropesHYPERLINK "http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Allotropes_of_carbon" of carbon such as diamond and graphite may also be classified as inorganic. The difference between "organic" and "inorganic" carbon compounds, even though they are useful in organizing the area of chemistry it somewhat doesn’t make sense.

Organic chemistry is the science that deals with all aspects of organic compounds. Organic synthesis is the procedure of their preparation. The present meaning of organic compound contains a significant amount of carbon even though many of the "organic compounds" today have no association with any substance found in living organisms. There is no official meaning of an organic compound. Some books and others define an organic compound as something that contains one or more C-H bonds; others include C-C bonds in the definition.

Some say that if a molecule contains carbon it is organic.

Most carbon-containing compounds are organic, and most compounds with a C-H bond are organic. Not all organic compounds automatically contain C-H bonds. Organic compounds may be categorized in many ways. One major difference is between natural and synthetic compounds. Organic compounds can also be classified or split by the presence of heteroatoms, such as organometallic compounds which show bonds between carbon and a metal, and organ phosphoruscompounds which are bonds between carbon and phosphorus.

Another difference, based upon the size of organic compounds, separates small molecules and polymers. Natural compounds are produced by plants or animals. Many of these are still removed from natural sources because they would be too expensive to be made artificially. Examples include most sugars, some alkaloids and terpenoids, and nutrients such as vitamin. Also in general the natural products with large complicated molecules present in concentrations of living organisms.

Some of these compounds that are found in biochemistry include antigens, carbohydrates, enzymes, hormones, lipids ; fatty acids, neurotransmitters, nucleic acids, proteins, peptides and amino acids, lectins, vitamins and fats and oils. There are also other compounds. Compounds that are set by reaction of other compounds are stated as "synthetic". They may be either compounds that already are found in plants or animals, or they do not occur naturally. Most polymers are organic synthetic or semi-synthetic compounds. Also, Carbon atoms can link together by covalent bonding.

Organic compounds are usually flammable and reactions are molecular, not ionic. Several compounds can exist with the same formula and most organic compounds can serve as nutrition for microorganisms. Organic compounds are the basis of existence on earth. The purpose of this reflects the importance of these compounds that make up life on earth. A good selection of substances, like drugs, vitamins, plastics, natural and synthetic fibers, also carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleotides and water create the organic compounds. Drugs like aspirin, acids like citric acid and venoms like cyanide are all made up of carbon and other elements.

Some organic compounds are used to preserve food, to control pain and fever, and to relieve us. Organic chemists figure out the arrangements of organic molecules, revise their different effects, and improve procedures for the synthesis of organic compounds. Organic chemistry often is talked about with the discovery in 1828 by German chemist, Whler. He discovered that ammonium cyanate could be changed in the laboratory to urea, a material found in the urine of animals. Before this discovery, chemists believed that interference by a life force was needed for the synthesis of organic substances.
