It is concerned with normal structure and function of these systems through electrophysiological techniques including nerve conduction studies (NCS), evoked potentials, electroencephalography (EEG) or magnetoencephalography (MEG). Neurologists who specialize in clinical neurophysiology may also study: epilepsy; sensory dysfunction; movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease; sleep medicine; neuromuscular junction disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); diseases affecting muscles including motor neuron diseases like spinal muscular atrophy (SMA); pain management including headaches or chronic pain syndromes like fibromyalgia; cranial nerve palsies due to facial paralysis or Bell's palsy etcetera."

Clinical neurophysiology is focused on the diagnosis of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. It uses electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) to diagnose disorders such as epilepsy, brain tumors, muscular dystrophy, and nerve injuries. Evoked potentials are used to diagnose problems with certain nerves in the brainstem or spinal cord. Nerve conduction studies are used to determine if there is damage in a specific nerve or nerve root. Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP) can be used for diagnosing sensory nerve problems that affect hearing or feeling sensations in different parts of your body respectively.
Headaches are a common symptom, and the primary neurologist will often be consulted for headaches. A neurologist is a physician who specializes in disorders of the nervous system and can evaluate you for headache and determine if you need to see another specialist (such as an ophthalmologist or opthalmologist).
Headaches are divided into four main categories: tension, migraine, cluster, and chronic daily headache. Tension headaches are usually experienced as pain in the brow region that feels like tightness; they may also be accompanied by tenderness on one side of your head. Migraines tend to involve one side of your head and cause intense throbbing pain or sensitivity to light or sound. Cluster headaches are short but severe attacks of pain on one side of your head that occur repeatedly over several weeks or months in clusters (hence their name). Chronic daily headache is persistent daily pain lasting more than three months with no known cause; this type includes symptoms such as nausea and vomiting as well as other symptoms from other types of primary headache syndromes such as depression or anxiety
