The Catholic Church encourages its members to take part in pilgrimage because it teaches people that God is in and of the world. They believe it is one way that we can get closer to God. Protestant churches have rejected pilgrimage as they say it gives a false understanding of God. People who go on pilgrimage seem to be more aware of God and have greater respect for God. Many start to see things differently and become kind, gentle and caring.
