Strategic planning is an ongoing process that involves setting goals, developing strategies, performing a SWOT analysis, and aligning resources. It’s important to understand the three steps involved in this process.
The first step involves determining marketing goals and objectives. The first step in creating a strategic marketing plan involves determining your goals and objectives. What is the purpose of this step? How does defining your goals and objectives benefit you?
To define goals and objectives for your business, you need to know what it is you are trying to accomplish.
The first question is: what do we want from our marketing efforts? This can be broken down into three parts: 1) Who are we targeting with our marketing message? 2) What do they care about most when making purchasing decisions? 3) Why will they buy from us instead of competitors at this time?
Once you have answered these questions, the next step is prioritizing them so that they align with each other and make sense for where you’re at now as a company.
You can use some methodologies like AIDA or Tuckman’s model to help guide this process as well as thinking about how each goal/objective supports one another in achieving overall success!
Next, you need to conduct an internal and external analysis. The purpose of this phase is to understand the market, your position in it, your competitors' positions in the market, customers' needs and wants, your company's strengths and weaknesses, resources and capabilities.
It's important that you identify all relevant information so that you can create a sound marketing plan based on facts rather than just assumptions or gut feelings.
You should conduct an internal analysis first because it will provide you with an understanding of how well positioned your business is for success within its industry; this information can then be used as part of an ongoing monitoring process throughout the strategic planning process."
The final step in this process is identifying the benefits of the strategic opportunities identified. Here are some examples:
The benefit of each opportunity should be clearly articulated so it can be easily understood by others in your organization who may not have participated in generating strategic ideas or selecting them for further consideration. In addition, when you're communicating these benefits to external audiences (for example, potential investors or customers), you want them to be able to see how your idea will help them achieve their goals or solve their problems.
