What Are Different Leadership Styles

Categories: Leadership Styles

People are a leader's best asset. That's why it's important to understand the different leadership styles. There are many ways to lead, but some ways work better than others in certain situations and with specific types of people. As you read through this article on leadership styles, consider which methods work best for your situation and the people in it.

Autocratic leadership

  • The leader sets the goals and the team works towards them.
  • The leader is the decision maker.
  • The leader is the boss.

  • The leader is in charge of the team
  • Democratic leadership

In a democratic leadership style, the leader consults with others before making a decision. The leader keeps the team informed about decisions that have been made and is open to suggestions and criticism. In order to make sure everyone is on board with what's going on, leaders using this leadership style may go back and forth until they find consensus.

When it comes to making decisions, democratic leaders will often change direction if their team disagrees with them.

Laissez-faire leadership. This style of leadership is a more passive approach to management. It's best used when the leader has a good idea about what he or she wants done, but doesn't want to get involved in the details of his or her employees' daily tasks.

The laissez-faire manager delegates authority and responsibility to subordinates, who then make decisions on their own without any interference from above.

The leader does not provide direction, guidance, or motivation for his/her employees; instead trust is put in them to do whatever needs doing effectively and efficiently without constant supervision from above.

Bureaucratic leadership is a top-down, authoritarian style of management. The leader is the boss and the person in charge. He or she gives orders, makes decisions, and has all the power. In this type of environment, there are no surprises for employees because they know exactly what to expect from their superiors.

Charismatic leadership is a form of leadership that uses charm and motivates people to perform better by inspiring them. Charismatic leaders are seen as visionaries and are able to communicate their vision to the team effectively.

Charismatic leaders have a high level of energy, optimism, self-confidence and personal drive which helps motivate other people within an organization. They inspire their employees by providing direction, inspiration and support for their staff members' ideas so they can succeed in achieving goals together as a team. This type of leader will often involve themselves in hands-on projects or tasks with their employees rather than simply directing them from afar so they can get closer understanding what needs doing & why it needs doing."

Servant Leadership. Servant leaders are concerned about the needs of others, and they focus on the growth and development of their followers. They're willing to make sacrifices for the benefit of others. Servant leadership is a collaborative approach that focuses on helping people achieve their full potential. A servant leader uses his or her power to serve those he or she leads, rather than seeking to control them. This can be done in many ways: by listening carefully, communicating effectively, modeling appropriate behaviors and providing feedback in an honest way that builds trust between you and your team members.

Transactional leadership is when you reward people for their good work, punish people for their bad work, give people what they want and give them what they need. In other words: "if you do X then I will do Y." This is the most common style of leadership and can be found in many different types of organizations (such as a family).

Visionary leadership is a combination of charismatic and visionary leadership. This style relies on the leader to be able to see beyond his or her current circumstances. The vision then needs to be communicated to followers, who are often inspired by the message.

The leader must also be able to motivate their followers in order for them to accomplish tasks that are required for achieving their vision.

It's important for visionary leaders not only have goals that they can visualize but also create a sense of urgency within their organization so that everyone is focused on achieving those goals as quickly as possible

There are many different leadership styles. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, so the best style is the one that fits the situation. The best style is also the one that works for your team, but it may not be the best choice for you as an individual.

Leadership is an art that is constantly evolving. It is important to be aware of the different leadership styles and adapt to the situation at hand. One style may work better than another depending on the circumstances, so it’s important not just to choose one approach but rather use a combination of styles that best suits your needs and your team’s strengths and weaknesses.
