We Don’t Have Another Earth

Without the Earth people have nowhere to live, along with many other organisms. If humanity dose not save the Earth now maybe our children or grandchildren might not be able to see it for long. Our atmosphere is weakening, and humans must to do something about it fast.

Planting more trees to create more oxygen to keep the bad air away from the atmosphere, or people could just stop cutting down the rainforest. Humans are living and we need the space, but humanity is not the only species on this earth.

Saving the rainforest is not only good for us and the atmosphere but also good for the many different species that it homes.

People could try to get as many humans as possible to switch to hybrids and other energy saving things to use less fossil fuel for energy and relying more on solar and wind energy, but it is hard to get people to change their lifestyles. Fossil fuels are destroying our earth and we need to limit the use of it.

Recycling is a great and easy way to help our precious planet. Everyone can help, all they have to do is follow three simple rules; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! People have heard that saying since we were young, but most of the time we struggle to do this simple task. Recycling isn’t that hard, but people don’t want to go out of their way to change their schedule.

The world is precious, and we need to keep it that way.

It is a shame that humans aren’t treating it with the respect that it deserves. The Earth gives us life, yet people are repaying this gift with destruction.

When plastic straws became a symbol of environmental destruction, Starbucks swiftly came up with a plan: Get rid of them. The company redesigned its cold cup lids, so they won’t require a straw at all. By 2020, Starbucks said, it will eliminate single-use plastic straws at its more than 29,800 locations around the world. It was a remarkably quick fix, considering the company has spent 30 years trying to come up with a greener alternative to another object: its iconic paper cup. Cups for Starbucks are iconic. They seem to spell your name purposefully wrong, so you post it and BOOM! Free advertisement. As long as they make customers feel good (and maybe laugh about the wrong spelling), the cups are a big asset to the company. But those cups could also be a damage for Starbucks. Starbucks used 4 billion paper cups for hot beverages in 2016 alone (Chow). If a similar backlash were to happen to the single-use coffee cup, which is lined with plastic and not recyclable in most places, the company would suddenly have a big problem on its hands, and a lot of protesting people. We’ve seen efforts like this before.

Redesigning a paper cup, much less actually making it compostable or recyclable, is a tall order. As basic as it looks today’s disposable cup is perfect. It does not leak, break, melt or warp. It does not change the way beverages taste. It is cheap enough to be mass produced. It is light and stackable, so it can be easily transported and stored.

plastic lining from the paper. Many recyclers find that process to be more trouble than It is worth. If recycling facilities try to recycle paper cups without separating out materials first, the plastic lining is likely to jam up their machines. That makes the cups effectively non-recyclable at most facilities. Instead, the cups usually end up in landfills or the environment, where the go which is why It is so difficult to invent a greener alternative. An eco-friendly cup has to first meet all those requirements — and then break down easily.

And while technically, Starbucks’ cups can be recycled under the right circumstances, they usually are not. Most facilities don’t recycle paper cups because to do so, they would have to separate the cups’ plastic lining can break down into microplastics that may harm marine life or enter the human food chain, which then can cause huge problems.

Still, the company has set high standards for itself. “We won’t consider our cups universally recyclable until our customers can recycle them in our stores, at their homes and workplaces, and in public spaces,” the company said in its 2010 global responsibility report (Global).

For now, Starbucks can afford to move at its own pace because the public is not up in arms about the cup. But consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about disposable, single-use waste. And sometimes, all it takes is one spark to light a fire. Just like with the straws.

One young 9 year old boy names Milo started a company in which bans straws from restaurants unless a customer asks for one (Milo), along with a viral video of a straw stuck in a turtles nose sparked controversy around the world, and with that places began to ban single-use plastic straws. Places like Seattle, WA, California and soon to be Spokane, WA have banned plastic straws all together, forcing consumers who enjoy straws the buy glass, steel or biodegradable paper ones.

500 million straws are used each day, and 8.3 billion plastic straws pollute the worlds beaches. Eight million tons of plastic flow into the ocean every year and straw comprise just 0.025 percent of that.

If we don’t save our earth, NASA says in 2050, our world will no longer be habitable, and we don’t have a ‘replacement earth’. This is our one and only earth, and we must take care of it.
