Walking our Faith: What is the purpose of life?

Growing up we all try to find our purpose in life and nature to do this we must see what things we value over others and why that is. Is the reason that you value something because of faith or family or is it because it’s something personal that you decided is right based on your morals and ideas. Growing up we also tend to hear is to be a leader and don’t follow which is misconstrued because to lead you must first learn from someone else.

The daily thing that we should do is try to take a moment each day and reflect on what you learned that day and how it can be applied in your life on a daily bases. My personal leadership personal statement is, No matter how many things you discover, how many friends you have, how much you grow as a person, or what kind of value you might have added you must understand that the two things that you need to be an effective leader is family and faith because faith and family are the key aspects that we as leaders.

Without faith and family, you will not become an effective leader because without personal faith and family you will not have a true purpose when you lead whomever you are leading due to the two being the backbone of any effective leader.

With personal faith and family as a backbone of my leadership style, I can build relationships with those I lead.

This is because I am better able to connect with people because with the family aspect of my leadership style it is easy for people to see me as someone that they can trust and open up to and the same goes with faith. With the people that I am leading being more open to me and willing to come to me with their problems and stories, it allows me as a leader to better lead them and guide them in the right direction. This is because I better understand their strengths and their weaknesses and I also understand what they value and relate to. That makes me an effective leader since people are more inclined to follow a leader that they trust and can relate to some aspect. Even people with different cultures have their faiths which you can relate to your own which makes people happy because you are relatable and will be again more inclined to follow your lead because of the trust and bond that you formed with that person or group of people. An example from my personal life is when I was the caption of my high school football team my senior year I was better able to get the team together in more of the family aspect due to family being of my key morals as a leader. This allowed the bond of the team to be stronger than it was the year prior and even though we didn’t have a very successful record that year we improved on our record from the previous year due to us understanding better our strengths and weaknesses as a coherent group of young men. This is when I decided that this was the leadership style that worked for me because if I would have incorporated this when I first got into my leadership role a year earlier we could have most likely have made a championship run my senior year.

The character trait that I am lacking in my ability to be super strict and trying to instill discipline in others, which some people would look at and automatically assume that I am a bad leader or I’m just super goofy and just let those that I am leading just have there way with little to no repercussions at all. The way I get around this though is to physiologically make you instill the discipline in yourself rather than for me to tell you to be disciplined and punish you for it. This is because you are more inclined to listen and respond better to your thoughts and feelings rather than someone else. The way that I enforce this is through the family aspect of my leadership style of family and personal faith, with the leadership that I exhibit the family culture that I build I am able to build with those that I lead it allows them to get corrected by those around them or not do anything in the first place because they don’t want to feel like they have let down the team. The aspect of this is that you will always be harder on yourself than anyone else around you can be so if I get those under me to believe the mantra of the family motto that I placed on them they will work not only better as a group but also be more self-aware of themselves because they do not want to let the others within the team or group fail because it’s one thing to let yourself down but when you let others down with you its another deeper feeling.

The changes that I will make in my personal life to help strengthen the leader that I want to be is to instill more discipline in the way I lead because if I am able to master the aspect of having a good base of being able to instill discipline in others than I will be able to make those that I lead that much better and powerful as a coherent group of people. The ways I plan to do this is to be more proactive, don’t procrastinate, and be more professional in professional settings. The way that I am going to do this is when on my youngster cruise and during my youngster year to improve on these three things is to; be for vigilant and act on problems as soon as I can rather than waiting till the last possible moment to try to fix the problem or mishap that happened. I will also try to take things that are serious more seriously; because I have a tendency to not be as serious as I need to be at times which is an issue sometimes because if I don’t take it seriously and goof around that means I will not put all of my effort that I can give into the task. Due to the fact that it seems unimportant to me and I really don’t want to do something that I feel like is a waste of my time, for example, plebe summer I didn’t perform as well as I could have because I didn’t take it seriously since I went through NAPS I felt like plebe summer was a complete waste of my time so I didn’t put all of my efforts into performing to the best of my ability. I know this is one of my weaknesses so I will try my very best to take this out of my habits going forward as a leader as well as just a person.

Without faith and family, you will not become an effective leader because without personal faith and family you will not have a true purpose when you lead whomever you are leading due to the two being the backbone of any effective leader. Because if you do not have these two aspects of leadership then the people will be less likely to willing follow you and want to do what you tell them to do because you are less relatable to them and they will not be able to open up to you about what’s going on in their lives. Discipline is also an important aspect of leadership that I tend to struggle with but through my time at the academy, I plan to strengthen this aspect and make that weakness one of my strengths.
