In touch football the ball is passed between the attacking team to players that are onside, who will run or move with the ball in an attempt to gain ground, giving them a chance to score. Defending players prevent the attacking team from gaining ground by touching the ball carrier. There are six players from each team on the field at a time. The six players are split into positions that consist of two centers, two links and two wings.
Touch football players use fitness components these components are split into two categories, health and skill related.
Health related components include aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition. The skill related components include muscular power, speed, agility, balance and coordination.
Aerobic capacity was tested by performing the beep test. This test involved running continuously between two points that are 20m apart from side to side. You have to make it to the other side before the beep. If you make it you get to continue on, otherwise you have to stop on that level.
My rating for the beep test was very poor I don’t have very good endurance and this shows I am not well suited for the center position. This test showed which players would be more suitable to the center position, as they are fitter. It is also specific to the style of touch football, due to the short sharp turns.
